Personal pronouns

Theory

Personal pronouns are used to replace a noun that refers to a person, an animal or a thing.

There are two types of personal pronouns depending on their function in the sentence. There are subject personal pronouns and object personal pronouns.

Examples of subject personal pronouns:

  • I like your house.
  • You seem distracted.
  • He/ She wrote a book.
  • It is raining.
  • We live in London.
  • They are visiting us.

Examples of object personal pronouns:

  • Can you help me, please?
  • She doesn't love him.
  • He doesn't love her.
  • We saw them in town yesterday, but they didn't see us.

Examples of object personal pronouns are used after prepositions:

  • She is waiting for me.
  • I will get a present for you.
  • Can you give it to him?
